AMANDA HOAG, LMFT

(she/her/hers)

My goal for therapy is for you to feel empowered and heard in a place of nonjudgment. I aim to help you feel more confident in yourself and your ability to take on the world. I believe you already have many unique and helpful strengths. Together we can work to identify these, so you can use them to help you reach your goals.

My style is warm, casual, and collaborative. Working with me you can expect to be having a conversation rather than talking to a silent observer. My goal for each session is for you to gain insight into your situation as well as leave with new tools to start trying.

I work with adolescents, adults, and families providing support for concerns including self esteem, anxiety, depression, trauma, relationships with others, parent-child relationships, grief, and more.

MY APPROACH

I use different tools from different types of therapies depending on your goals and needs. I offer here-and-now suggestions and new ways of thinking based on evidence-based practices including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), strength based therapy, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). My understanding of how you are influenced and supported in your environment and relationships is influenced by family systems and attachment-based theory. Depending on interest I often incorporate mindfulness activities, games, and art projects.

EDUCATION/LICENSE

I received a Master’s of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Seattle Pacific University in 2017 and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from University of Washington in 2014.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT) in Washington state (LF60991898).

PAST WORK

I have worked in community mental health agencies with both children and adults providing therapy, case management, intake assessments, and crisis appointments. This work has provided me extensive experience diagnosing DSM-V disorders and providing risk/safety assessments.

I also previously worked in a partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient program providing both individual and group therapy. During these groups I taught DBT skills and ACT concepts.

Before starting work as a therapist I volunteered for the local crisis line, King County Crisis Connections.

PERSONAL

I am a Seattle-area native but also spent one year living in Austin, TX. I enjoy spending time outdoors while running, hiking, and gardening. I also doing puzzles, cross stitching, going to concerts, or watching movies and TV. I have two cats who often make appearances during telehealth sessions.
